Lernakademie Darmstadt has chosen the town of Darmstadt as its location for a specific reason: in August 1997 Darmstadt was awarded the title of "Town of Science" by the Hessian Ministry of the Interior. This award served to recognize both the national and international importance of the academic institutions and research institutes of Darmstadt.
The city of Darmstadt has a long and distinguished tradition of science and research.
Well-known research scientists of Darmstadt are Georg Christoph Lichtenberg (1742 - 1799), Justus Liebig (1803 - 1873), August Kekulé (1829 - 1896) und Heinrich Emanuel Merck (1794 - 1855).
There is an extremely high concentration of various research institutes in Darmstadt, representing a multitude of scientific areas of study. Scientific minds from the world over converge in Darmstadt to take part in cooperative scientific ventures, making Darmstadt a leading city in the development of the scientific and technological future.
Darmstadt is a highly diverse city with a plurality of nationalities, and the new Lernakademie Darmstadt serves to enhance this international environment by teaching the students and members of the city the German language. Students seeking to begin learning the language, or those who wish to improve their preexisting knowledge of German, may enroll in the Lernakademie Darmstadt. Ultimately, our students will have the in depth knowledge required to pass the German language aptitude exam (DSH or Test DaF), and begin attending university.
